Of course, the ultra-minimalist solution to bedding would be a mattress on the floor. But if you’re not quite ready to take that step, the Gallica bed from the Futon Company (pictured at left) is the next best thing.
It’s made from rubberwood with a walnut stain, and can be used either alone or with two tatami mats under the mattress.
I love the low profile, sleek lines, and absence of a headboard. It satisfies all the functions of a bed frame without the fussy detail or bulk of traditional furniture. The small side table (sold separately) is perfectly proportioned for, and blends in beautifully, with the bed.

The ultimate minimalist bed is a sleeping bag on the floor.

My friend from Denmark uses a platform bed that her Father made for her 40 years ago .I borrowed the idea when we gave up water beds ,by making a slightly smaller frame ,placing the plywood on the frame sturdy up with cross boards ,like old idea of slats ,cover with fabric or sheet[ It has been years of comfy beds for me and I like the look Now that the water bed frame is gone ,to heavy,I place boards on a bed frame in the same manner. At this time I have a old brass bed with slats and plywood , it saves buying a box springs and The mattress seems to last longer.
We had a raised white platform bed but then our third son bought a new bed and he gave us the bed frame, boxspring and headboard. I have to dust the headboard often.
